The Xenia City Council recently approved a Resolution to oppose the Governor’s proposed 2017-2018 budget which, among other provisions, proposes to centralize the collection of net profit tax returns related to the municipal income tax causing not only a loss of revenue to Xenia, but ultimately, the loss of basic services that support the health, safety, welfare and economic development efforts of Xenia and negatively impacting citizens here. And it’s not just the City of Xenia that’s concerned about this latest budget, but municipalities statewide, who have been reeling from the effects of reductions in the Local Government Fund since 2013 and are concerned overall that the state is interfering with municipalities’ rights to collect and manage their own revenues and that the potential for fair monetary re- distribution from the state back to cities is in jeopardy. We urge you to read the attached resolution and to contact your local and state representatives. Let them know that you do not support the proposed budget, or the continuing trend of reductions in the Local Government Fund that hurt you and Xenia overall.
