Downtown Improvements Underway!

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), in partnership with the City of Xenia, is undertaking a series of improvements to Detroit and Main Streets to make the downtown area safer, more functional and more inviting for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. In turn this will make Downtown Xenia more attractive to businesses and residents. This project comes in response input from Xenia citizens during the 2013 X-Plan process as well as analysis of traffic and crash data. The improvements, known as the Downtown Safety Project, consist of:

  • Two-way protected bike lane on Detroit Street from Church Street to Third Street
  • Pedestrian/bike safety enhancements at N. Detroit/Market, S. Detroit/Hill/Prairie Grass Trail, and W. Main/Creekside Trail crossings
  • Extended concrete median on W. Main Street at Creekside Trail to limit turns and reduce crashes
  • Consolidated signal at W. Main/Galloway (removal of signals at King and West) to improve traffic flow
  • Safety improvements to Detroit/Church intersection to reduce crashes and confusion

Temporary lane and on-street parking space closures may occur on Detroit Street between Church and Third Streets and on West Main Street near Galloway Street and between West Church Street and Dayton Avenue from September through December of 2017, and from March through May of 2018.
