For the fourth year, Xenia Police Division is allowing male officers to say ‘so long’ to the razor for its 'Beards and Badges' campaign.
XPD has put its own spin on the ‘No-Shave November’ campaign, which encourages men to not shave their facial hair in order to raise awareness for cancer. Officers who participate donate $50 to the ‘Beards and Badges’ fund and choose a new charity each year to support. Sgt. Jeff Osburn, who is coordinating the campaign in 2019, said officers who do not participate typically donate to the cause. Female officers who participate in the campaign are permitted to paint their fingernails.
Between sworn officers, dispatch and civilian personnel, there are more than 40 participants in this year’s campaign. Participants are being divided up into five groups and this year the groups will adopt a family from each elementary school in town. The money donated will pay to ensure the families have a nice Christmas.
The 'Beards and Badges' campaign continues through December.
